COVID-19 Information

Updated 6/11/2020

We are pleased to announce, after much planning and discussion, our branch lobbies are now open for normal business hours. For the safety of other members and our employees, if you have had any COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has been infected with the COVID-19 virus, we ask that you continue to utilize our services over the phone or our electronic access methods.

The safety and well-being of our members, your finances and our branch employees remain a top priority here at SCU. Though the atmosphere and appearance will be a bit different in our lobbies, we will continue providing the best experience for you, our members. These changes include:

  • Branch capacity and traffic flow have been set to maintain social distance. When we are above capacity, members will be asked to wait outside. You will also notice 6-foot floor guides to display social distancing.
  • Touchless hand sanitizer is available for all members when entering and exiting the branch.
  • SCU employees will wear masks and we are asking our members wear one when you enter the branch. We may ask you to remove your mask briefly, so we can identify who you are for certain transactions.
  • You will notice that we now have plexiglass germ shields at the teller areas, reception desks and in FSR offices.
  • We ask that members be limited to 2 per party.
  • Heightened sanitization practices, including recurring cleaning routines and nightly deep sanitization have been occurring since the beginning of this crisis and will continue indefinitely.
  • We will continue to have a mandatory health and temperature screening for all credit union employees every day. Employees who are experiencing any relevant symptoms or have been exposed to high-risk situations due to travel, and/or have knowledge of exposure to the COVID-19 virus will be asked to stay home from work.

We can’t thank you enough for your understanding and your continued trust during this time.

As a result of the governor’s recent “stay at home” order, we want to reach out to our members to communicate how this impacts your accounts and Security Credit Union in general. As a financial institution, SCU is viewed by the governor as an essential service. This means we will be able to stay open while still honoring the governor’s recently issued order. As you are aware, as of Monday, March 23rd our branch lobbies are closed to general transactions and are available for appointment only; our drive-up service remains open. We may need to adjust our services over the coming days and weeks.  If changes are necessary, we will communicate this on our website and social media channels.

In these times of uncertainty, we also wanted to remind you that your money is safe with Security Credit Union. We are proud to be insured by the NCUA with your individual accounts insured up to $250,000. These methods include Mobile Banking, Online Banking, Automated Telephone Banking, our 15 SCU-owned ATMs and through the CO-OP Network, fee-free access to tens of thousands of ATMs across the country.

Attention Members:

To protect the health and safety of our members and employees, Security Credit Union has made the difficult decision to close our lobbies to member transactions. Beginning Monday, March 23rd at 9:00AM, our lobbies will be closed to walk-in traffic. In order to meet member needs, we will be expanding the services we offer through our drive-thru lanes to continue to offer all of our existing credit union services. Additionally, our lobbies will be open for member appointments. Please see the telephone numbers below to schedule an appointment. As our Warren and Detroit offices do not have drive-thru service available, these offices will remain open for all member business.

We continue to encourage all members to use our remote access options if possible and please avoid coming to a branch for simple transactions. These options include:

  • Mobile Banking and Online Banking. With these services you can check your balance, transfer money between accounts, pay your bills, and more. With our Mobile Banking application, you can even deposit a check from the comfort of your kitchen table!
  • Automated Telephone Banking. Through our automated call system, you can check your balance, transfer money between accounts and place a stop payment on a check.
  • Online Payment Portal. Through our Online Payment Portal, members can make payments on their SCU loans from accounts at other financial institutions. We understand that our community is being asked to remain home to stop the spread of COVID-19. As a result, we have temporarily removed the fee we generally charge when processing a transaction through this service.

While the above remote access options will work for most member requests, we understand that it may be necessary to speak with a Financial Service Representative (FSR) face-to-face. We are asking all members who need to speak with an FSR, to please call ahead for an appointment so we can limit the number of members in our branches at any given time. To call for an appointment, please use the numbers below.

You can reach Security Credit Union at (810) 235-2322. Please note, these numbers are ONLY TO SET UP APPOINTMENTS. To ask general questions, please contact our call center at the number above. When prompted for an extension, please use the following:

  • Flint Township (Linden Road) – Extension 1602
  • Saginaw (Schust Road) – Extension 1702
  • Burton (Center Road) – Extension 1502
  • Grand Blanc (Holly Road) – Extension 1802
  • Mayfield Township (N. Lapeer Road) – Extension 4100
  • Imlay City (E. First Street) – Extension 4300
  • Lapeer (Imlay City Road) – Extension 4200
  • Owosso (E. Main Street) – Extension 1902
  • Cros-Lex (Peck Road) – Extension 4511

As a reminder, our Warren (E. 9 Mile) and Detroit (Clark Street) office lobbies remain open and no appointment is necessary.

We hope you understand that closing our lobbies to member transactions is not an action that we take lightly. We are doing this in an effort to protect the health of our members, employees and communities. We remain committed to our members and will re-open our lobbies for transactions as soon as it is safe for us to do so.

Thank you.

Dear Members,

As we navigate through this COVID-19 situation, we are working diligently to balance the needs of our members with the well-being of our members and employees. While our branch offices remain open for business, we are asking our members to utilize our remote access options. These include our Call Center, Online Banking, Mobile Banking, Automated Telephone Banking and our extensive ATM network.

We are asking our members to please refrain from visiting one of our branches unless the transaction you are trying to accomplish cannot be done via one of these remote channels. If you need to visit one of our branches, please consider using our drive-thru services so that we can better protect the health of our employees and our members.

SCU also offers options to sign documents electronically. If you need to sign loan documents or change your account information, please contact us so that we can discuss if a remote signature can work for your request.

We will continue to update you as the situation evolves and as further updates are necessary. Please check this webpage for the latest information from SCU and www.cdc.gov for the latest on this crisis.

Thank you again for your continued trust!

We remain committed to keeping our branch offices open to member traffic for as long as we are able. Security Credit Union prides itself on always being there for our members, in good times and in bad and we know how important it is for you to have easy access to your money in these times of uncertainty.

In all of our branch locations, we have enhanced our daily cleaning procedures on high-touch services and are working with our employees to ensure that they are following the best-practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We have also asked that any employee who is unwell, not report to work until they are no longer symptomatic.

We would like to ask that any member coming into one of our branch lobbies, practice the social distancing method recommended by the CDC. According to Johns Hopkins:

“Social distancing is deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness. Staying at least six feet away from other people lessens your chances of catching COVID-19.”

Thank you for the trust you place in us and helping protect the health of your fellow members.

In all of our branch locations, we have enhanced daily cleaning procedures on high-touch services and are working with our employees to ensure that they are following the best-practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We have also asked that any employee who is unwell, not report to work until they are no longer symptomatic.

Most SCU branches have an ATM on-site and Security remains a proud member of the CO-OP Network and the Alliance One network, giving our members fee-free access to tens of thousands of ATMs across the nation. You can view the ATM location nearest you on our website.
