On January 21, 2012, Security Credit Union supported UAW Locals 699 and 668 at their Wild Game Dinner held at Local 699’s union hall in Saginaw. Proceeds from the event went to educating youth.
Security Credit Union hosted the Great Lakes Bay Regional Hispanic Business Association membership meeting held on January 9, 2012. We shared the many business services available at Security for small businesses.

Armando Hernandez, Security’s Vice President Business Development was appointed to the City of Flint's Committee on Finance and Administration. The responsibility of this committee is three-fold:
-
Help review the relevant parts of the City's 45-Day Plan to the Governor due in mid-January 2012;
- Support implementation of the 45-Day Plan if possible and as appropriate;
- Be a part of the City's strategy to share and discuss the 45-Day Plan with the general public.
The driving force behind these efforts is improving the financial stability of the City of Flint.

Shiawassee GoodFellows held their 80th annual “Wrap a Child in Warmth” newspaper sale and Sue Osika, Security’s Owosso Office Manager, was proud to participate. She sold newspapers to raise money in an effort to help as many of the more than 400 school aged children in Shiawassee County referred for assistance with warm winter wear.
Light Up Lapeer and Santa House holiday festivities was made possible by dedicated friends, chamber members, volunteers, community service organizations, and local business owners who supply the financial means to get the job accomplished. Security was happy to be one of those dedicated to providing the financial support necessary to add beauty to Lapeer at the holiday season.
Security Credit Union has supported The Old Newsboys of Flint for many years, and 2011 was no exception. Security had collection canisters at our Genesee County offices and accepted donations for their Sponsor a Child Program. The Old Newsboys 2011 campaign ran November through December 31, 2011.

Sue Osika, Security’s Owosso Office Manager, volunteered as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army’s traditional Red Kettle campaign. This was an integral part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families, seniors, and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season. Sue also helped with the Salvation Army Toy Shop.
Security’s offices in Genesee, Lapeer and Saginaw Counties participated in the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s 2011 Holiday Campaign by selling cut-out ornaments. For every dollar donated to the Food Bank it equates to 6 meals worth of food for someone in need. The campaign ran November through December 31, 2011.

Security Credit Union was a proud sponsor of Lapeer County Habitat for Humanity’s 9th Annual Auction Dinner on November 5, 2011. Habitat for Humanity is a local charity that provides safe and affordable housing for the working poor of the county. Security Credit Union presented a donation of items collected through the credit union’s “Support Our Troops” drive to Operation Care Package of Michigan. Thousands of items were donated by Security members, employees and the community including toiletries, food items, clothing, recreation materials and more. The donated items were assembled into holiday care packages and shipped to U.S. military service men and women overseas for Christmas. On September 15, 2011, Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) held their annual Cards’ Party (SVSU’s mascot is a cardinal). This SVSU tradition is a student involvement fair where student organizations, non-profit organizations, and businesses gather to educate students about the many opportunities in our community. We introduced the students to our Financial Starter Package which has the financial services that are perfect for meeting the needs of young adults.

The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Shiawassee County held a Kash For Kids Fundraiser on September 1-3, 2011. Cash was collected from customers as they exited a local retail store. Sue Osika, Security’s Owosso Office Manager and also a Child Abuse Council Member, assisted in the collection. A total of $2,710 was collected and Security was proud to count all the cash donated for the fundraiser.

Security Credit Union participated in the New Student Welcome Day event held at the University of Michigan-Flint on September 1, 2011. We introduced the students to our Financial Starter Package which has the financial services that are perfect for meeting the needs of young adults.
Security Credit Union participated in the first annual Support the Foundation Art Bra Fundraising Event which enabled Memorial Healthcare Foundation to provide cancer screenings for qualifying Shiawassee Region community members who are uninsured or underinsured. Donations were made to vote for the entry you like the most and out of 93 entries Security’s art bra titled ”Feel Secure with Security” was announced as the winner at the fundraising event on August 27, 2011.
We were voted the Best Credit Union in Lapeer County in the 2011 Readers Choice Awards that was held by The County Press. Security is very proud that our loyal members and members of the Lapeer County community recognized our offices for this award!
The festival was held August 19-21, 2011 and Security Credit Union was a sponsor. Lapeer Days was founded in 1902 and is an exhilarating experience for the entire family. The festival took place in beautiful downtown Lapeer and has grown in popularity to become one of Mid-Michigan’s premier FREE festivals.
Our office located at 2404 S. Linden Road, Flint participated in the Tune Up Party held on August 10, 2011 in Flint Township for Back to the Bricks.
Security was a sponsor of The Eastern Michigan Fair in Lapeer County that was held August 9-13, 2011 on Midway Street in Imlay City.

Security participated in the Shiawassee County Fair held August 7-13, 2011. The fairgrounds are located at 2900 E. Hibbard Road in Corunna. This is truly an important part of the lives of many Shiawassee County residents, and Security was proud to be part of this great tradition that started in 1850.
The 31st Annual Blueberry Festival was held on August 5-6, 2011 in downtown Imlay City. Security Credit Union was proud to be a sponsor of this event which included fireworks, parade, car show, entertainment and kid’s activities.

We held our annual Hot Dog Day for Security members and the Lapeer community on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at our 1675 N. Lapeer Road, Lapeer location. The hot dogs were delicious and it was a fun event for the whole family!
Security Credit Union donated to the annual 4th of July fireworks show in Lapeer County held at the athletic field of Lapeer West High School. These fireworks were produced by the Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce. Security also donated to the fireworks held in North Branch.
On June 23, 2011 and August 18, 2011, Saginaw Office Manager Julie Fluder and the Saginaw office staff volunteered at the Saginaw Township Soccer Association’s “Party on McCarty” fundraisers. The fundraisers were part of a free summer concert series held at and for the benefit of the Saginaw Township Soccer Complex.

Security’s offices in Genesee, Lapeer and Saginaw Counties participated in the Caring Communities Credit Union Weeks held June 20 – July 1, 2011, by selling “passport” stamps to members for $1, $5 or $10 each. Our members generously donated $2,012.12 for this campaign which helped the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan “Because Hunger Does Not Take a Vacation!”
Security Credit Union was voted the Best Credit Union for the 2011 Best of Shiawassee Awards! In 2010 and again in 2011, the readers of The Argus-Press newspaper voted Security the Best Credit Union in Shiawassee County. Katie Krane, Security’s Lapeer Vice President, volunteered at the Relay For Life in Lapeer County that was held June 11-12, 2011. She assisted in the Auction Tent and also the Survivors Tent. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

Security’s Owosso Office Manager Sue Osika, was emcee along with City of Owosso Director of Public Safety Michael Compeau, for the 34th Annual Curwood Festival Heritage Parade held on June 4, 2011 in Owosso. The Curwood Festival is a celebration of the American novelist James Oliver Curwood. Many of his novels were written in Curwood Castle on the banks of the Shiawassee River.

Young Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC held its 7th Annual Collars for a Cause event with the Shiawassee Humane Society on May 21, 2011. At the event, animals were adopted to good homes which helped with the overcrowding at the Humane Society. Security was proud to participate in this year’s event that resulted in the adoption of 24 animals, which is about what the shelter normally does in a month.
On May 19-21, 2011, Security was happy to volunteer our Lapeer office at M-24 and Davis Lake Road as a location for the annual sale of bright red poppies by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The poppies are not actually sold, but are exchanged for donations no matter how large or small to raise money for veterans, their families, and veterans’ groups.

For the 3rd year, the Lapeer Community Center held the Lapeer Community Health Expo on May 13-14, 2011. The expo offered a wide range of health services, information and advice. Security Credit Union was proud to participate in this worthwhile event which benefitted the entire Lapeer community.

On May 5 and May 12, 2011, our Lapeer Office Manager Denise Klein, was invited to speak to students at North Branch Middle School regarding the education needed and responsibilities of a Credit Union Manager.
Security Credit Union was a sponsor of the 32nd Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade & Fiesta held in Saginaw on May 7, 2011. Thousands of people attend the event each year, and the parade is the largest Hispanic parade in Michigan. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The date is observed as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
Security was proud to announce that as an expression of gratitude by the March of Dimes, we received a March for Babies 2010 “Outstanding Support” plaque. Again for 2011, we worked with the Lapeer March for Babies on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in registration and then in tabulation of the money collected. The money raised supports programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies.
During the month of April, our Saginaw office supported the CAN Council of Saginaw County by participating in their Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign. April was Child Abuse Prevention Month, so this campaign created awareness to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Security Office Manager Toyia Turner was proud to attend the Freedom Fund Dinner hosted by the NAACP Flint Branch on March 12, 2011. The Freedom Fund Dinner was founded in a period of renewed national hope and determination among African Americans, even in the face of continuing racial violence and tragedy. The National Chairman of the NAACP, Dr. Channing H. Tobias (1882-1961), had called for the establishment of a one million dollar fighting fund for freedom.

On March 5 & 6, 2011, the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Home Builder’s Association of Shiawassee County combined to bring the biggest and best show ever. Security was one of over 150 exhibitors who featured a variety of products and services.

On February 19, 2011, Dancing with the Starz II was hosted by the Owosso Community Players (OCP) and the Shiawassee Arts Center (SAC) to raise money for OCP’s rebuild campaign and SAC’s Art Education Fund. Local “celebrities” were partnered with “professional” dancers to entertain at the sold-out event. Security was proud to be a sponsor and have our own “celebrity”, Owosso Office Manager, Sue Osika, perform the waltz in this great community, fun-filled fundraiser.
Security Credit Union had two teams participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters 32nd Annual Bowling Challenge fundraiser that was held at Galaxy Lanes in Grand Blanc.

Priority Children of Genesee County held its 16th Annual Children’s Champion Awards on February 11, 2011. Security Credit Union participated as a sponsor. Also, Security’s Vice President Business Development, Armando Hernandez, was a judge for Champion Awards. Priority Children was launched to organize a community-wide effort to improve the quality of life for children in Genesee County.

Security Credit Union supported UAW Locals 699 and 668 at their Annual Hunter’s Banquet. The banquet was held on January 29, 2011 at Local 699’s union hall in Saginaw. Proceeds from the event went to the College Scholarship Fund for the children of the membership of Local 668.
