Security Credit Union was proud to present a check for $2,431.60 to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Amid the increased need in a harsh economy, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan set a goal to collect $830,000 for the 2010 holiday season. Security Credit Union offices in Genesee County collected funds for this worthy endeavor to help feed the hungry in Eastern Michigan.

Hundreds of Genesee County families seeking help applied at The Salvation Army for Christmas assistance with food, clothing and toys. Security’s Communication Center assisted in The Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign by participating in the Adopt-a-Family program.
In the month of December, our Owosso and Saginaw offices held a Diaper Drive. The Every Little Bottom study, commissioned by Huggies and its parent company Kimberly-Clark, found that one in three American mothers struggle to provide diapers for their babies. The study also revealed that many parents cut back on basics such as food and heat to provide diapers for their babies. Our Owosso office teamed up with Young Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC Inc. and Indian Trails Motorcoach to hold the Diaper Drive for the Child Advocacy Center of Shiawassee County Baby Pantry. The Saginaw Office teamed with Draper Chevrolet to hold the Diaper Drive for the Child Abuse & Neglect (CAN) Council of Saginaw County. Saginaw kicked off their Diaper Drive on December 1 with a live radio remote with the Mix 106.3 FM.

Security Credit Union supported the Holiday Depot of Lapeer again this holiday season. We participated in their annual holiday donations which provides assistance to families in need in the Lapeer Community. We held a special item drive at all of our Lapeer County offices and asked for donations of personal items such as toothpaste, soap, diapers, etc. Thank you for stopping by and donating to those in need in our Lapeer Community.
Security Credit Union has supported The Old Newsboys of Flint for many years, and 2010 was no exception. Security had collected canisters at our Genesee County offices and accepted donations for their Sponsor a Child Program. The Old Newsboys 2010 campaign ran through December 31, 2010.
 Light Up Lapeer holiday festivities were made possible by dedicated friends, chamber members, volunteers, community service organizations, and local business owners who supply the financial means to get the job accomplished. Security was happy to be one of those dedicated to providing the financial support necessary to add beauty to Lapeer at the holiday season.

The 28th annual 300 Club Sports Party & Raffle was held on November 5, 2010 and Security supported this community event. This is the only event that brings together the Owosso and Corunna High Schools, the Rotary and the parent boosters for a night of fun while raising funds for the organizations.

Security Credit Union was a proud silver sponsor of Lapeer County Habitat for Humanity’s 8th Annual Auction Dinner on November 6, 2010. Habitat for Humanity is a local charity that provides safe and affordable housing for the working poor of the county.
 At Memorial Healthcare Foundation’s Donor Recognition Reception on November 10, 2010, Security was recognized as a Benefactor for our contributions. The Owosso foundation’s mission is to help ensure that Memorial has the resources necessary to provide world-class healthcare programs for the community.
 Security Credit Union sponsored Ray C’s 6th Annual Lapeer County Buck Pole held on November 15, 2010. Those who brought in their buck were eligible to win prizes! Security Credit Union recognized 5 of the winners with a $100 cash prize each. All proceeds of the event went to Wheelin Team 457, a non-profit organization that competes in and promotes activities for physically impaired men, women and children.

In October, Denise Klein, Security’s Lapeer Office Manager, volunteered to provide JA education and her experiences with students at Lapeer East High School. JA is dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Embodying the heart of JA, their classroom volunteers use the key concepts to inspire and empower students to believe in themselves, showing them they can make a difference in the world.

 Security Credit Union was proud to have a team assembled to walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Comstock Inn in downtown Owosso. This is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. The Making Strides event is not a race; it is a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope, and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. When you participate in the Making Strides event, you’re helping create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays - where breast cancer never steals another year from anyone’s life.
 On Friday, October 15, 2010, Security was part of the 11th Annual Family Literacy Center Camel Races held at the Lapeer Center Building on County Center Street.
 We hosted our annual Hot Dog Day for the Lapeer community and Credit Union members on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at our 1675 N. Lapeer Road, Lapeer location. Festivities included hot dogs, giveaways, door prizes, and face painting. It was a fun event for the whole family!
 We were proud to be a sponsor of the 30th Annual Blueberry Festival held August 6-7, 2010 in downtown Imlay City.
 The Shiawassee County Fair ran August 8–14, 2010. Security was proud to be part of a great tradition that started in 1850.
The Eastern Michigan Fair is a non-profit, 112 year old tradition in Lapeer County drawing over 50,000 visitors to the fair and over 80,000 visitors to the fairgrounds annually. We were happy to continue the tradition as a sponsor for the August 10-14, 2010 fair.

Security was a sponsor of Family Night for the Friday Night Live series. On August 13, 2010 we were at Morley Plaza in Downtown Saginaw for free entertainment, food vendors and fun children’s games.
 Security was a sponsor of the festival being held August 20-22, 2010. Lapeer Days was founded in 1902 and is an exhilarating experience for the entire family. The festival takes place in beautiful downtown Lapeer and has grown in popularity to become one of Mid-Michigan’s premier FREE festivals.

Security Credit Union donated to the annual 4th of July fireworks show in Lapeer County held at the athletic field of Lapeer West High School on Sunday, July 4. These fireworks were produced by the Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce. We also donated to the fireworks held in North Branch on Sunday, July 4.

In the summer of 2009, Security Credit Union sponsored a concert at the Clio Amphitheater, and was proud to sponsor another summer concert in 2010. In particular, Security Credit Union sponsored the Johnny Cash Tribute on July 13, 2010. Clio Amphitheater’s mission is to provide great family entertainment at an outstanding value. Security Credit Union is proud to support endeavors that benefit the communities of our members.
 We are proud to announce that Security Credit Union was voted the Best Credit Union for the 2010 Best of Shiawassee Awards! The readers of The Argus-Press newspaper voted Security Credit Union the Best Credit Union in Shiawassee County. We are honored to be recognized in Shiawassee County for our office located at 1400 E. Main Street in Owosso. Thank you to our loyal members and members of the Shiawassee County community for this special recognition!
 Security Credit Union participated in the Caring Community Credit Unions Week, held June 21-25, 2010. This campaign helped the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan continue the summer food programs for parents, students and the elderly. Information on making a monetary donation directly to the Food Bank for this campaign is available at all Security offices.
 On June 25, 2010, a bone marrow drive was held at our Owosso office for Olivia Enderle, 14 months old, who is fighting Neuroblastoma Cancer. She is the daughter of Mike and Emily (Henry) Enderle of Ovid. There was a record-breaking turnout for the drive with 186 people being screened and placed on the registry at the National Marrow Donor Program.
 Security Credit Union was proud to announce that in addition to the computers we donated earlier this year to several community organizations, we recently donated computers to the Flint Firefighters Local 352 for their office. In addition, we donated computers to the Michigan Department of Human Services to be used at their Family Resource Centers in four Flint-area schools.

 Saginaw held their 31st Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade & Fiesta, and Security Credit Union was a sponsor. Thousands of people attend the event each year, and the parade is the largest Hispanic parade in Michigan. The Saginaw Hispanic Community has a rich cultural celebration with the annual Cinco de Mayo festivities.
 Security Credit Union supported the Joint Annual Health Fair held May 8, 2010, between The Arab American Heritage Council and Genesee County Hispanic/Latino Collaborative. It was a free, community fair held in downtown Flint to try to make Mid-Michigan a healthier place, one person at a time. It featured free screenings for body fat, the H1N1 flu, blood pressure, eye care and an extensive mobile dental clinic, which offered free dental screenings.

North Branch Middle School in Lapeer County, put emphasis on career pathways during the 2009-10 school year. As a result, they held Career Fairs and invited guest speakers to discuss their careers. Denise Klein, Security’s Lapeer Office Manager, was invited and participated in the May 13, 2010 event. Denise shared with the 7th and 8th grade students her job duties as a credit union manager.
 Security Credit Union had a team in the Relay for Life in Shiawassee County. The event was Friday, May 14, 2010 through Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds. Relay for Life was a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gathered at the fairgrounds and took turns walking or running laps. Each team tried to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
 On May 15, 2010, Security Credit Union supported the Lapeer County Deputies Association by being a sponsor of their Shop With A Cop annual fundraiser held at the American Legion Hall in Lapeer.
 April was Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Security’s Saginaw office supported the CAN Council of Saginaw County by participating in their Pinwheels for Prevention and Blue Ribbon Campaigns. To bring awareness to prevent child abuse and neglect in Saginaw, from April 1 through April 30, 2010, the office sold to members for a minimum donation of $1 either a pinwheel that they can take with them, or a blue ribbon that they can put their name on that was displayed in the office.

Security Credit Union formed several teams and participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling fundraisers in Genesee, Lapeer and Saginaw Counties. Security was also a Reception Sponsor in the Greater Flint Genesee County event held on February 18, and the team bowled February 20. In Saginaw the team bowled on April 16 at Crooked Creek Lanes, and the Lapeer team bowled on April 24 at Gerlach’s Bowling Center.

4th Annual Cesar Chavez March on March 27, 2010 held in Flint.
The Hispanic Latino Collaborative of Genesee County organizes the march
each year to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Cesar E.
Chavez.
The American GI Forum of
Flint/Hispanic Technology & Community Center, sent Security Credit
Union a Thank You letter for donating computers ( click
here to view letter). In additional to this donation,
Security also donated computers to the Iglesia Latinoamericana SBC, and
other non-profit organizations in Genesee and Shiawassee Counties.

The United States Department of
Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and
Reserve recently recognized Security Credit Union as a patriotic
employer for contributing to national security and protecting liberty
and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National
Guard and Reserve Force. “Security Credit Union is proud to have
employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve,” said Security’s
President Terry Pierce. “We believe it is our duty to support our
troops when they‘re home and abroad, and we are honored that the
Department of Defense has recognized our efforts.”
 Our Owosso office assisted the
Corunna Public Schools in Shiawassee County with their Haiti relief
efforts. We donated the use of our coin counter, collected and
counted money, and even helped keep score by tabulating the collection
by grade level because the schools had a competition between the
different grade levels.

On February
19, 2010, Priority Children of Genesee County held its 15th Annual
Children’s Champion Awards. Security Credit Union participated as a
sponsor and was nominated for a Special Opportunities for Children and
Youth award. Priority Children was launched to organize a
community-wide effort to improve the quality of life for children in
Genesee County. A diverse coalition of individuals and
organizations participate in Priority Children, including volunteers
from business, civic affairs, charitable organizations, education, the
faith community, government, and health and human services.
